Main Slate Rundown šŸˆ

We pick up some momentum as we roll into week two of the college football season! Aside from having a glimpse into how each team is setting up for the 2023 season, the best thing about getting past week one is seeing fewer blowouts and better match-ups hitting the schedule. The 13-game DraftKings Saturday main slate will kick off at noon ET and will feature ten match-ups with single-digit spreads. For FanDuel players, there will be seven mutually shared games with the DK slate, so plenty of recommended plays and info should come in handy in this newsletter. Letā€™s dive into the action! Best of luck!

Main Slate Match-Ups

Quarterbacks to Consider

QB options at various price points.

Jaxson Dart, MISS | $9,700 | @ TUL

The Ole Miss Rebels made quick work of their out-matched Mercer opponent in week one, winning by a score of 73-7. Dart needed just 23 pass attempts to throw for four TDs and 334 yards while tacking on 36 yards rushing on four attempts. A more competent Tulane opponent welcomes Ole Miss into town in week two. This game owns a slate-high 66.5 over/under with Ole Miss favored by 7.5 points. The Tulane defense allowed a 76.7% comp% to their week one opponent (South Alabama). Ole Miss ranks second on the slate with a 37.0 implied total and, should this game turn into the shootout itā€™s projected to, Dart will continue to bring a high floor, high ceiling to DFS lineups.

Jeff Sims, NEB | $7,200 | @ COL

All of the media attention in this game will side with Colorado, who was undoubtedly the big story of week one. But it also sets up as a great DFS environment given its 59 over/under and close spread (COL -3). Jeff Sims and the Huskers had a low-scoring match-up with Minnesota last week. One of the few positives we can glean from that game was how much Sims utilized his rushing ability, racking up 91 yards on 19 rush attempts. Sims should also find more success through the air in week two based on the 42 points allowed and 279 yards that Colorado allowed to TCU last week. Sims brings 30+ DKFP upside to DFS lineups this week at a fair price tag.

Cam Fancher, MRSHL | $6,300 | @ ECU

Getting into the QB2 (Super Flex) territory, Cam Fancher stands out as an enticing option. He completed 80% of his passes in week one and can provide dual-threat upside after rushing for 60+ yards in three of his final five games last season. ECU ranked 128th in the FBS in pass defense in 2022 and they did not get off to a great start in week one, allowing an 83.9% comp% and three TDs to a vastly superior Michigan opponent. This game doesnā€™t possess a huge total (44 O/U) but it is expected to be competitive (MRSHL -3). Fancher has plenty of potential to pay off this $6,300 price tag.

Other QBs to Consider

Shedeur Sanders, COL | $9,400 | vs. NEB

Michael Pratt, TUL | $8,800 | vs. MISS

Hudson Card, PUT | $6,000 | @ VT

Wide Receivers to Consider

WR options at various price points.

Tre Harris, MISS | $7,800 | @ TUL

One of the stars of week one was La Tech transfer Tre Harris who made a huge splash in his Ole Miss debut. Harris hauled in 6-of-9 targets for 133 yards and FOUR touchdowns against Mercer. With WR Zakhari Franklin looking doubtful to suit up, Harris should continue to be a top receiving threat in a potent Ole Miss offense in what should be a high-scoring affair against Tulane.

Travis Hunter, COL | $7,000 | vs. NEB

Itā€™s pretty impossible to ignore the Travis Hunter hype train following his ā€œdo-it-allā€ week one performance where he made game-changing impacts on both offense and defense. On the offensive side, Hunter hauled in 11-of-14 targets for 119 yards and scored 25.9 DKFP. He also contributed three tackles and an interception on the defensive side. Hunter will begin to garner Heisman attention if he continues his prolific two-way performances. If thereā€™s anyone who will push such a narrative, itā€™s Coach Prime. Expect the uber-talented Travis Hunter to continue to shine in week two.

Deion Burks, PUR | $4,800 | @ VT

There are always some guys who fail to earn an appropriate DFS price tag early in the season and Burks looks like one of those guys this week -- for comparison, he checks in at $8,500 on the FanDuel slate. Burks garnered nine targets in week one and, though he caught only four of those targets, he went for 152 yards with a pair of touchdowns. Burks should continue to operate as the top receiving option for QB Hudson Card. Burks + Card makes for an affordable WR/QB stack with great upside.

Dane Key, UK | $4,700 | vs. EKU

Unlike most teams on this slate, Kentucky will get another cupcake match-up at home against Eastern Kentucky. There arenā€™t many lines out on this game, but Iā€™ve seen Kentucky as huge 35.5-point favorites on some sportsbooks. In their 44-14 week one blowout of Ball State, Dane Key brought in 5-of-8 targets for 96 yards and a TD. Kentucky should have no problem getting a huge lead in this game but, before they take their foot off the gas, Key has a great chance to return value on his $4,700 price tag.

Luke Lachey, IOWA | $4,000 | @ ISU

This match-up between Iowa and Iowa State owns a slate-low 36.5 over/under, so weā€™re not going to see a shootout of any sort go down here. But thereā€™s no harm in scanning for cheap plays that should be able to pay off even in a low-scoring environment. Iowaā€™s offensive scheme typically features the tight end heavily, however, Lachey played second fiddle to Sam LaPorta in 2022. LaPorta is now a member of the Detroit Lions which opens the pathway to Lachey being the Hawkeyesā€™ top receiving option in 2023. He brought in 7-of-9 targets in week one for 73 yards in what was also a fairly low-scoring 24-14 victory over Utah State. Lachey should return value on his $4,000 salary based on target volume alone, but heā€™s also a strong bet to find the endzone for the first time this season.

Other WRs to Consider

Jimmy Horn Jr., COL | $7,400 | vs. NEB

Jordan Watkins, MISS | $6,200 | @ TUL

Roman Wilson, MICH | $5,400 | vs. UNLV

Ben Sinnott, KSU | $4,500 | vs. TROY

Xavier Restrepo, MIA | $4,100 | vs. TA&M

Abdur-Rahmaan Yaseen, PUR | $3,900 | @ VT

Running Backs to Consider

RB options at various price points.

Quinshon Judkins, MISS | $8,100 | @ TUL

Judkins commanded just 15 touches during the week one dismantling of Mercer. In a more competitive game environment, as this one is expected to be, Judkins should handle 25+ touches. He was one of the most impressive freshmen in the country a season ago and he should make a strong case as the best RB in the country this season. Tulane is tough on the ground, but Judkins was able to run wild on SEC opponents last season so the match-up shouldnā€™t scare anyone away.

Devin Mockobee, PUR | $6,300 | @ VT

Mockobee had a fairly modest week one performance despite Purdue racking up 35 points. Still, he had a solid day with 19 total touches, 76 total yards, and a score. Mockobee provides a solid receiving skillset out of the backfield and was targeted at least five times in four of Purdueā€™s final five games in 2022. Heā€™ll draw a solid match-up against a Va Tech team that allowed 5.9 YPC to Old Dominion RBs in week one along with five receptions for 36 yards.

Rasheen Ali, MRSHL | $4,800 | @ ECU

Ali may be the most mis-priced RB on the slate and heā€™ll surely command a ton of DFS attention. Itā€™s hard to overlook a guy like Ali who should garner 20+ touches against a vulnerable ECU defense. Ali missed most of last season due to injury but he ran wild in 2021 for 1,401 yards (5.6 YPC) and 23 touchdowns while adding 45 receptions and 334 yards receiving. Heā€™s Marshallā€™s clear-cut RB1 and should be able to pay off the $4,800 salary with ease.

Kaelon Black, JMU | $4,200 | @ UV

A bit of a flier here but Kaelon Black impressed with a 10.4 YPC average in week one, taking 12 carries for 125 yards against Bucknell. James Madison will face stiffer competition in week two, yet they are only +6.5 point underdogs on the road against Virginia. Itā€™s a completely different level of opponent, but Virginia got manhandled by Tennessee on the ground last week, surrendering 287 yards rushing and five rushing TDs. JMU uses a committee backfield with Black and Latrele Palmer, but early on, Black looks like the more explosive option.

Other RBs to Consider

Ray Davis, UK | $7,700 | vs. EKU

Donovan Edwards, MICH | $6,800 | vs. UNLV

Dylan Edwards, COL | $6,500 | vs. MISS

DJ Giddens, KSU | $5,800 | vs. TROY

That will do it for this weekā€™s CFB DFS rundown! Best of luck!
