Main Slate Rundown š
Week one is in the books, and now weāll look to gain some momentum rolling into week two! Admittedly, week two tends to have a little less ājuiceā than the opening week with far fewer marquee matchups. While some teams do begin to dive into conference play, many of the P4 schools are matched up with one of their scheduled ācupcakeā opponents, and there is only one top 25 matchup on the board this weekend (No. 15 Michigan at No. 18 Oklahoma). I will never be one to complain about a college football Saturday, but not all CFB Saturdays are created equally!
As usual with these CFB newsletters, our focus will be dialed in on the 12-game DraftKings Saturday main slate, which will get underway at noon ET. The 14-game FanDuel main slate will share nine games with the DK slate, so there will be some useful info in here for FD players as well (though, CFB player pricing tends to vary drastically between DK and FD). I will admit that my week one core plays were not all too spectacular, but it does help immensely to have every team with one or two games under their belt in the new season. While some situations and depth charts are still cloudy, we do have a much clearer picture of how these teams will operate in the 2025 season. With all of that said, letās get into it. Best of luck!
To begin, letās get a look at the 14 teams with a 25.5+ implied point total on this slate. The majority of our preferred DFS plays will be found on these rosters:

On the flip side, weāll want limited-to-no exposure to teams who are expected to struggle to score 20+ points. These teams generally either find themselves completely out-matched versus their upcoming opponent, they donāt possess a capable offense, their matchup is expected to be a low-scoring affair, or itās some combination of those three factors. Unless a specific player is priced down, has near-matchup-proof talent, and is guaranteed high volume, we should lean toward avoiding these six teams on the slate:

Obligatory: Vegas spreads and totals arenāt the be-all, end-all but they do give us a solid amount of information to use as our research ājump-off pointā on any given slate.
Main Slate Match-Ups

Week Two Core Targets šÆ
QB Jalon Daniels, Kansas | $6,600 | at MIZZ
Itās not uncommon for DraftKings to baffle with CFB pricing, especially early in the season, and Jalon Daniels sits under $7K, which profiles as an absolute steal. Normally, I lean toward jamming in as many bellcow RBs in CFB lineups as possible, or maximizing WR exposure when a slate has some elite options, but, with the versatility of the āS-FLEXā roster slot in CFB DFS, there are some real legs to the double-QB lineup approach this week. And Daniels brings too much value for too little cost.
Through Kansasā first two games, Daniels has piled up 456 passing yards with 7 TDs against just one interception, plus 65 rushing yards. The early-season blowouts against Fresno State (KU won 31-7) and Wagner (KU won 46-7) limited Danielsā use of mobility, but that changes this week in a more competitive atmosphere against Missouri. On paper, Mizzou is the better team here, and Kansas heads in as 6.5-point road dogs. But that only lends itself to a heavily involved Jalon Daniels game script, utilizing both with his arm and legs, and weāve got a solid 50.5 over/under here as well. Expect Daniels to be fully unleashedāand poised for a possible slate-breaking outing.

QB Beau Pribula, Missouri | $6,100 | vs. KU
As noted, I like the double-QB lineup approach for this slate, so a second QB checks in as a core play⦠and it happens to be the aforementioned Jalon Danielsā counterpart. Beau Pribula comes in as Missouriās clear starter after Sam Horn went down with a long-term ankle injury, and at just over min-price on DraftKings, heās a prime DFS option in week two. Week 1 against Central Arkansas showcased Pribulaās dual-threat upside: 283 passing yards with 2 TDs (82.1% comp%), plus 65 rushing yards and 2 more scores on the ground (10 rushes, 6.5 YPC).
Kansas presents a stiffer test in this āBorder Warā rivalry game, so thereās some volatility baked inābut that volatility is exactly what makes Pribula a big upside option at this soft price point. With the over/under above 50 points and both teams capable of scoring in bunches, Pribula is a prime candidate for upside-focused lineups, especially if youāre willing to take a gamble and roll out both QBs from this game in the same lineup in hopes of a shootout.
RB Hollywood Smothers, NC State | $6,500 | vs. UVA
Much like the NFL has been doing over the last handful of years, many CFB teams are moving away from the bellcow RB approach and are operating more toward an RB by committee. So, when we can get our hands on an actual bellcow, like Hollywood Smothers (great name), then weāve got to roll with āem even if ownership projections are high on these sorts of guys. Smothers is locked in as NC Stateās lead back and is coming off a week one where he handled 22 carries for 76 yards and a TD against ECU, while also flashing his pass-game utility, catching all four of his targets for 30 yards. The 3.5 YPC average from Smothersā week one game against ECU wasnāt impressive, but he has averaged 5.6 YPC for his career, so more efficient days lie ahead. Volume is king in DFS, and Smothers is shaping up as a true three-down back in this Wolfpack offense.
The matchup against Virginia is a step up in competition, but Smothersā skillset travelsāheās explosive on the edges and finished 2024 ranked near the top of the ACC in both YPC and yards-after-contact. With a clear stranglehold on the backfield and a price tag that still feels too light for the workload, Smothers remains one of the better RB values on the slate.
RB Kewan Lacy, Ole Miss | $5,300 | at UK
Ole Miss is going to put up fireworks on the offensive side of the ball all season, but this weekās matchup with Kentucky profiles at a slower pace, which only strengthens the case for the role of a workhorse running back like Kewan Lacy. The true freshman turned heads last week, ripping off 103 yards on 16 carries (6.8 YPC) while punching in three touchdowns against Georgia State, and DraftKings has yet to adjust his price to reflect that usage. Lacy was only graded out as a three-star in the ā25 recruiting cycle, but heās looking to prove the analysts wrong with a productive freshman campaign. Heās a speedster who clocked a 10.79 time as a high school junior in the 100-meter dash, and his big-play ability was on display last week with a 42-yard third quarter touchdown scamper where he topped out at 20.5 mph (see tweet below).
As noted in Smothersā spotlight, weāre seeing fewer and fewer bellcow backs operate at the collegiate level, and Lacy looks to be the class of the Rebelsā backfield. His three-down profile, coupled with a featured role in one of the nationās more explosive offenses, makes him unavoidable at this salary. Even in a tougher spot against Kentucky, the volume + efficiency combo gives him major upside at chalky but justifiable ownership levels.

WR Cam Ross, Virginia | $3,500 DK | vs. NCST
Staying in theme with this slate, Cam Ross is a glaring value play at near-minimum DraftKings pricingācompare his $3,500 DK salary with the steep $9,700 price tag on FanDuel, where he is the second-most expensive WR on the slate. The JMU transfer immediately stepped into a featured role for Virginia, leading the team in Week 1 targets with nine, which worked out to a 25.0% Target%, and he converted those nine targets into a 7-catch, 124-yard, 1-touchdown line. Matchups matter less when youāre effectively getting a WR1 at this salary, but this is a solid matchup nonetheless. This game has one of the closest spreads on the slate (NCST -3) with a strong 54.5 over/under. NC State also gave up 211 yards on 21 receptions to ECU WRs in week one, and they ranked as the 93rd pass defense in the FBS in 2024.
Note: This core of five [rather underpriced] players on DraftKings will leave an average remaining salary of $7,333 per player, so you can really rip it elsewhere with stud plays.
